I understand mood, emotion, drama and narrative in terms of light, space, movement and texture. The paintings and drawings in this show were made in response to the dramatic tensions and inner struggles experienced by characters in the ancient Indian epic, The Ramayana, as well as in Celtic myths. That my work reads as landscapes is because the history of my painting life is in it, and that each piece is formally composed is because I believe form is the visual language out of which a narrative or emotional content can be expressed. Rather than make landscapes or abstractions, I wish my paintings and drawings to be dreamscapes, places where the viewer's own dreams and fears are made concrete.Alice Zinneshttp://www.alicezinnes.comnoreply@blogger.com
